Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lands in Israel after his trip to New York and Washington, his office says in a statement.

At 8 p.m., the premier will attend a convening of the cabinet to approve the appointment of Maj. Gen. David Zini as head of the Shin Bet security agency, the statement adds.

Just as it did during his departure, Netanyahu’s plane again took an extended detour to avoid the airspace of all countries along the route except Italy and Greece, lengthening the journey by hundreds of kilometers.

The trajectory, visible on Flight Tracker, may have been an effort to avoid problems related to the International Criminal Court’s warrant for Netanyahu’s arrest over alleged Israeli war crimes in Gaza — though Israel has denied such charges.
