Police detectives interrogated three senior insurance executives on suspicion of involvement in a corruption scandal tied to the Histadrut labor federation, police announce.
They were detained for questioning by investigators in the police’s Lahav 433 major crimes unit during a morning raid on the offices of Menora Mivtachim, a large insurance firm based in Ramat Gan.
The three are suspected of committing offenses in the sphere of public corruption, police say.
It is the latest development in a far-reaching investigation into union officials, specifically Histadrut chairman Arnon Bar-David and his insurance agent, Ezra Gabay.
Police believe Gabay exploited his close connections to Bar-David to fix jobs for his associates within the Histadrut, on the condition that the recipients secure insurance contracts with his agency.
The insurance executives detained earlier today for questioning will be released under restrictive conditions after interrogation, police say.
