Three of Israel’s research universities are among the top 100 in the world, according to the 2025 Shanghai Ranking, released early this morning.
The three universities are the Weizmann Institute of Science, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.
All three were included in last year’s list as well, and all three have dropped in the rankings.
The Weizmann Institute of Science is ranked 71st in the world, down from 69th place in 2024, while the Hebrew University of Jerusalem takes 88th place, down from 81st last year. The Technion drops the furthest of the three in comparison to last year, moving from spot 85 in 2024 to 97 in 2025.
The top of the Shanghai Ranking remains unchanged from last year, with Harvard University taking first place, followed by Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Fourth place is awarded to the University of Cambridge, and in fifth is the University of California, Berkeley.
