US to give Jordan $25 million worth of wheat
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleThe United States is giving Jordan about $25 million worth of wheat for resale, with the money to be used for improving agricultural productivity.
The US agriculture secretary, Tom Vilsack, and Jordan’s planning minister, Imad Fakhoury, sign the agreement involving 100,000 metric tons (100 million kg) of wheat.
Vilsack says in a statement the food assistance is meant to help ease the economic burden Jordan faces as it hosts more than 600,000 Syrian civil war refugees, out of nearly 4 million who fled to neighboring countries in the past four years.
