Police said Monday that officers had arrested a 56-year-old woman from the northern town of Nof Hagalil on suspicion of murdering her 90-year-old mother.

The woman was taken in for questioning after cops were called to her mother’s apartment, where they found the elderly woman dead, police told the Nazareth District court at a remand hearing.

The suspect was arrested at the end of the interrogation after changing her story several times, police said.

The court ordered her held in custody for four days.

A statement from the suspect’s lawyer rejected the suspicions against her, saying she was “a devoted and loving daughter who has been accused of an act which she vehemently denies.”

“We have no doubt that the serious accusations will soon be refuted and she will be able to mourn her mother’s death properly,” the statement said.

Last week, state prosecutors filed an indictment against a 28-year-old man from Beit Shemesh for stabbing his mother to death last month.

Shimon Stern, while at his parent’s home on October 22, approached her while her back was turned, and stabbed her with a knife multiple times for unknown reasons, according to the indictment filed on Thursday. The 52-year-old woman fell to the ground, and her son continued to stab her while she lay bleeding to death on the floor, prosecutors charged.
