A soldier run over by a tank and injured during a training exercise in the Golan Heights on Monday succumbed to his injuries and died on Thursday morning.

Sgt. Yonatan Ben Yishai was sleeping behind a tank when it reversed, running over and severely injuring him.

The Golani Brigade soldier suffered a serious head injury and was airlifted to Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, where he remained in critical condition until succumbing to his injuries.

Initial investigations conducted by the IDF found that the tank crew did not notice the sleeping soldier before they went in reverse.

The incident occurred during a joint exercise of the 188th armored brigade and the Golani infantry brigade.
