Woman, 61, dies in hospital of injuries; partner arrested
Police say suspect brought woman, who had preexisting medical condition, to the hospital; body sent for autopsy

A woman, 61, who was brought to the hospital with violent injuries, died overnight Monday, and police arrested her partner on suspicion of assaulting her.
The suspect, 55, brought the woman, a resident of Migdal Ha’emek in the north, to the Ha’emek Hospital in Afula, the Israel Police said in a statement.
Medical staff who examined her found evidence of foul play, police said.
Police said the woman had a preexisting medical condition and was receiving nursing care.
Her body was sent for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, while police continue to investigate the incident.
Activists have long complained that not enough is done to prevent violence against women in Israel, particularly in cases known to the authorities.
In November, Transportation Minister Merav Michaeli, who also chairs a new ministerial committee on gender equality, announced the allocation of NIS 155 million (approximately $50 million) for a national plan to combat violence against women.
In July, Finance Minister Avigdor Liberman ordered NIS 55 million ($17 million) be immediately allotted to efforts to prevent and treat domestic violence. The money has been earmarked to partially fund the Welfare Ministry’s National Plan for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, which was approved in 2017 but has seen less than half the designated funds transferred for its implementation.
