Two people were killed Saturday evening in separate incidents as a violent crime wave continued in the Arab community.

Rosette Jarban, 23, was shot and critically wounded in Jisr az-Zarqa, an Arab coastal town, law enforcement and paramedics said.

She was on the way to visit her parents when she was targeted, the Ynet news site reported.

Medics tried to resuscitate her while transporting her to Hillel Yaffe Hospital in nearby Hadera, but declared her dead en route, the Magen David Adom ambulance service said.

Police said they arrested a suspect who is a resident of the town. According to a preliminary police assessment, Jarban was mistakenly targeted in an assassination attempt, Ynet reported.

Earlier in the evening, 20-year-old Ahmad Badran was stabbed to death, and another person was lightly wounded in a brawl in East Jerusalem.

Magen David Adom paramedics transported the two to the hospital, where doctors declared Badran’s death.

According to Hebrew media reports, the killing was a result of a feud between families.

Separately, two men were seriously injured in a shooting in Acre on Saturday evening, police and paramedics said.

Paramedics found the victims, both in their 40s, lying on the ground with serious injuries.

They were both taken to Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya for further treatment.

Police said they were investigating the circumstances of the shooting and searching for suspects.

A total of 157 Arab Israelis have been killed violently since the start of the year, according to the Abraham Initiatives coexistence group, which tracks murder victims in Arab society.

At this time in 2024, 142 Arab Israelis had been killed. This year’s tally represents a 12 percent increase compared to last year’s numbers, the organization said, putting it on track to become one of the most violent years recorded for Arab citizens of Israel.

Many Arab community leaders blame law enforcement for the spiraling crime rate, accusing police of neglect as the majority of murder cases go unsolved.

The crime wave has worsened considerably over the past two years, since the installation of the far-right Itamar Ben Gvir as national security minister.
