A teenager suffered a head wound during a tryout for the Israeli Navy in Haifa on Wednesday, the army said.

He was taken to the Rambam Medical Center in the northern Israeli port city for treatment.

Rambam would not immediately comment on the teen’s condition.

The army said the circumstances of the incident were being investigated.

The teenager is not yet a soldier in the Israel Defense Forces. He was taking part in a selection event for the Israeli Navy at its main base in Haifa, ahead of his enlistment.

The military holds these types of events, which are often called a “Yom Gibush,” in order to find candidates for its more elite combat units. They typically involve intense physical challenges.

The teenager’s family was notified of the accident, the army said.
