A 17-year-old Israeli living in Bucharest was arrested last month for allegedly beating his father to death with a hammer, the Yedioth Ahronoth daily reported Wednesday.
The youth said he killed his father during a fight that the victim instigated. He also said the father had abused him and his mother.
The father, an ex-border policeman in his 50s, reportedly moved to Romania with his wife and two sons over four years ago. He was released from service after suffering an injury while evacuating an illegal West Bank outpost.
During their time in Bucharest the mother reported periodical abuse against herself and the 17-year-old son to the offices of the local Jewish community, but never filed an official complaint with the police.
Yedioth reported that the mother confirmed to the police her son’s version of the events, saying they had both been verbally and physically abused. However, it noted, police found no bruises on the son’s body, making them suspect he decided to take revenge for previous beatings.
