An Arkia Israel Airlines passenger plane carrying 72 people landed safely at Ben Gurion Airport Sunday night following a request to make an emergency landing, the Israel Airports Authority reported.
Earlier, the plane sent a distress signal to the control tower, prompting the dispatch of medics and firefighters to the tarmac to stand by.
The aircraft was making its way from Larnaca, Cyprus, to Tel Aviv when pilots noticed a technical problem with one of the engines. The pilots disabled the failing engine and landed the plane safely with one functioning engine.
All passengers and crew disembarked with no incident and technical staff were on the scene to assess the situation.
