A delegation of PLO representatives was set to arrive in Gaza on Tuesday in order to engage in reconciliation talks with Hamas.

Palestinian MP Mustafa Barghouti said that the sides would discuss the establishment of a unity government and holding future elections.

The initiative is taking place as Israel, the Palestinian Authority, and the United States try to revive peace talks before their April 29 deadline.

Moussa Abu Marzouk, a senior Hamas official, traveled from Egypt Monday to meet with Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh.

Hamas freed 10 Fatah prisoners before the meetings as a goodwill gesture.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cynically referred to the renewed Palestinian reconciliation efforts during Monday evening’s traditional Maimouna festivities in Or Akiva, just north of Netanya.

“Today we see the Palestinian Authority, which yesterday spoke about disbanding, talking with Hamas about unity. They should decide whether they want to disband or have unity, and when they want peace, they should let us know,” he said.
