Police arrested a man on Sunday accused of starting several blazes in the hills west of Jerusalem, including one which damaged an Army Radio antenna used for public broadcasts Sunday.

Several fires have raged in the area around Abu Ghosh over the past week.

On Sunday, dozens of firefighters were called to fight a blaze on the outskirts of Abu Ghosh. During the fire an Army Radio antenna collapsed causing interruptions in local broadcasts. According to Army Radio’s website, one firefighter was lightly injured in the incident.

The suspect, 20, a resident of Abu Ghosh, was to be brought before the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court on Monday, the Ynet news website reported.

A number of fires in recent days led firefighters and police to suspect that arson was behind the blazes.

Last week over two dozen firetrucks and two firefighting planes were needed to control a fire in wooded area near Abu Ghosh.
