A policeman was stabbed in the settlement of Kiryat Arba, near Hebron, and suffered moderate-to-serious injuries Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The officer was attacked outside Kiryat Arba’s regional council. The stabber was an Israeli man, who reportedly then attempted to attack other people nearby and lightly wounded one of them.

He was subdued by passersby and arrested. The motive for the attack was not immediately clear, but police said it was probably an incident of a criminal nature.

Medical teams arrived at the scene and evacuated the policeman to hospital.
