Barbra Streisand thrills audience of 16,000 in Tel Aviv

Barbra Streisand gave her first concert in Israel Thursday night, thrilling a crowd of some 16,000 at Bloomfield Stadium in Tel Aviv.

The 71-year-old American diva performed her best-known hits like “Woman in Love,” “The Way We Were,” and “Enough Is Enough,” concluding with an emotional “Hatikva” accompanied by a 60-member orchestra, for which the audience got to its feet.

The two-and-a-half hour shindig turned out to be a family event with Streisand’s son, Jason Gould, an actor and singer himself, belting out his song “Misty,” among others, during mom’s concert, and sister Roslyn Kind also making an appearance for some crooning.

Streisand will give a second performance Saturday night at the stadium, as the first show was sold out within hours of being announced in April.

Earlier this week, Streisand performed “Avinu Malkeinu” at President Shimon Peres’s 90th birthday bash Tuesday night.

The American entertainer arrived in Israel on Monday for a week-long visit, with a reported entourage of some 140 people.
