Elderly woman dies in apartment fire in Jerusalem Old City
Jewish victim, reportedly in her 90s, found with severe burns in building near King David’s Tomb; 3 firefighters lightly hurt from smoke inhalation
An elderly woman died Saturday in a fire near King David’s Tomb in Jerusalem’s Old City, officials said.
Firefighters said they responded to a blaze at a two-story residential building and, while working to extinguish the fire, found a woman’s body.
According to the Ynet news site, the victim is a Jewish woman in her 90s.
The Magen David Adom ambulance service said medics pronounced her dead after finding the woman with no vital signs and with severe burns all over her body.
Police said three officers were lightly hurt from inhaling smoke while searching the building, and were treated with oxygen.
An investigation has been opened.
