6 wounded in clashes after settlers rebuild illegal outpost on Palestinian village’s land
Violent clashes between settlers and Palestinians northwest of Ramallah in the West Bank have reportedly left two settlers and four Palestinians wounded.
The clashes began when residents of Deir Abu Mashaal marched on an illegal outpost that settlers re-erected on village land this morning, hours after the outpost was dismantled by the IDF, according to WAFA, the Palestinian Authority’s official news agency.
According to the outlet, the military had informed villagers it would dismantle the outpost again, and it also entered the village earlier Friday to deter residents from marching on the outpost.
Settler ambulance service Hatzalah Without Borders says two settlers were attacked when dozens of Palestinians “set fires and attacked” the “new settlement point south of Deir Abu Mashaal.”
WAFA reports that dozens of Deir Abu Mashaal residents who marched on the settler outpost were met with tear gas fired by IDF troops.
Settlers then attacked Palestinians in the village with knives, wounding four people, one of them seriously, according to WAFA.
A man speaking to Arabic media from a Palestinian hospital bed, where he lies with a swollen black eye and bandaged head, says he was sitting with his family when over two dozen settlers charged at them, beat them and fired guns. They also stole his phone, he says.
