Arab journalist breaks down in tears amid racist harassment, says children targeted her at home

Arab Israeli news presenter Lucy Aharish says she was harassed again last night, this time by children who rang the intercom to her Tel Aviv apartment and flashed the middle finger at the building’s security camera.

In a tearful interview with Channel 13, Aharish describes the incident as deeply unsettling, saying the children appeared to be between the ages of 8 and 10.

“The hate that I see in the eyes of these children I’ve seen in completely different places,” she says, comparing the experience to her childhood, when she and her family were victims of a terror attack in the Gaza Strip in 1987. “You ask yourself what this country has come to.”

“Those who just sit there are silent, embrace them and send them to me every evening. Shame on you,” Aharish adds.

The incident comes a day after Jewish extremists protested for the fifth time within a week outside Aharish’s apartment building. Demonstrators were heard chanting, “May your village burn,” “Lucy you’re a whore” and “Leftists are traitors.”

Police said they have opened an investigation after Aharish reported being the target of a far-right hate campaign.

Many of the protest organizers have been associated with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party. The premier has yet to address the demonstrations. Aharish has said Netanyahu shares the blame for the threats against her.
