Diplomat tells CNN Trump’s call with regional leaders was ‘very positive’

A diplomat who was on US President Donald Trump’s call with Middle Eastern leaders about an emerging deal to end the Iran war describes the call to CNN as “very positive.”

“The call was very positive. Good progress is being made. Regional leaders were supportive of the progress and of the breakthrough President Trump achieved with the talks,” the diplomat tells CNN.

The deal reportedly under discussion is a framework that will kick off 60 days of talks between Iran and the US on a permanent end to the war. Iran submitted a proposal for a deal today, and a US response is expected by tomorrow.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was not on the call with leaders of Gulf states and other Middle Eastern nations. He and Trump are due to speak soon amid Israeli concerns about the emerging deal.
