El Al flight to Thailand skirts Oman as Muscat raps Israel

Israeli airline El Al begins flying an hours-longer route between Tel Aviv and Bangkok, Thailand, as Israel’s war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip rages on.

Instead of taking a route over Oman, El Al flight ELY 85 it reverted to a longer route in which it flew south over Saudi Arabia and the Red Sea before turning east over the Horn of Africa and heading into the Indian Ocean.

The route will keep El Al’s aircraft farther from Iran, which has backed Hamas.

The move comes as Oman is leveling new criticism at Israel over its Gaza offensive, with its foreign minister calling for Israelis to be tried for war crimes.
