National Unity party chief Benny Gantz says Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s decision to withhold hundreds of millions of shekels from Arab locales “has a whiff of racism” about it.

The move “harms not only [the municipalities] but all of Israeli society,” he says.

Gantz says the Arab community, which has seen over 140 murders since the start of the year, needs investment “not just in police enforcement but in all areas — education, infrastructure, welfare and more.”
