The Israel Defense Forces says it is prepared for a “week of operations” and that over 160 rockets have been fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip since Friday afternoon.
The IDF says there are currently no negotiations underway to bring an end to the violence.
The military says the Iron Dome missile defense system has demonstrated a 95 percent success rate at intercepting the projectiles fired toward Israeli towns by Gaza-based terror groups.
In a briefing to reporters, military spokesperson Ran Kochav says around 30 of the rockets fired by terrorists did not cross the border into Israel and landed within the enclave.
He says around 60 of the rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system and the remainder landed in open areas.
Kochav says “Tayseer Jabari is not the final target in Palestinian Islamic Jihad,” referring to one of the terror groups senior commanders killed in an IDF strike on Friday.
Responsibly covering this tumultuous time
As The Times of Israel’s political correspondent, I spend my days in the Knesset trenches, speaking with politicians and advisers to understand their plans, goals and motivations.
I'm proud of our coverage of this government's plans to overhaul the judiciary, including the political and social discontent that underpins the proposed changes and the intense public backlash against the shakeup.
Your support through The Times of Israel Community helps us continue to keep readers across the world properly informed during this tumultuous time. Have you appreciated our coverage in past months? If so, please join the ToI Community today.
