ABU DHABI — Foreign Minister Yair Lapid speaks at the inauguration of the new Israeli embassy in Abu Dhabi, describing the occasion as a “historic moment” and thanking former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his “vision.”
“We are standing here because we chose peace over war,” Lapid says, emphasizing that the opening of the embassy was just the start of the process.
“Israel wants peace with all its neighbors,” he says. “Israel isn’t going anywhere, and the Middle East is our home.”
“Peace isn’t a compromise,” he says. “Peace is the victory of all that is good.”
Lapid thanks former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US ex-president Donald Trump for their vision and efforts to get the agreements signed. He also thanks Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
Lapid arrived at the ceremony with Israel’s envoy to the UAE Eitan Na’eh, and UAE Culture and Knowledge Development Minister Noura Al Kaabi.
