Lavrov says Iran deal won’t create Mideast arms race

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov assesses that understandings with Iran on its nuclear program will not bring about a nuclear arms race in the Middle East.

If the Lausanne framework agreement becomes a final deal, Lavrov is quoted by a Russian news agency as saying, Iran will be subject to very strict monitoring.

Lavrov adds that implementing the deal and removing sanctions currently imposed on Iran will benefit Moscow, which is still waiting for payments over the deal between Rosatom, the Russian state nuclear company, and the Iranian government. Rosatom won the tender to build the Iranian nuclear reactor in Bushehr.
