Palestinians say hundreds injured in Temple Mount clashes

Hundreds of people have been wounded in renewed clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police at Jerusalem’s Temple Mount compound, the Palestinian Red Crescent says.

“There are hundreds of people injured from the clashes” and about 50 of them have been hospitalized, the Red Crescent says in a brief statement to journalists.

The clashes were prompted by thousands of Palestinians gathering overnight at the flashpoint Jerusalem holy site ahead of Jerusalem Day, collecting numerous rocks and other makeshift weapons, upon which police barred Jewish entry to the site. The Palestinians then started rioting and hurling rocks, causing police to enter the compound.
