Police suspect murder-suicide in Modiin fire; mother found with stab wounds

Police are investigating a possible murder-suicide after a house fire in the city killed a mother and her young son.
The 51-year-old mother appears to have been stabbed in the chest, says Central District police commander Amir Hetzroni at the scene of the fire, after it was extinguished by firefighters. The 13-year-old child was found without stab wounds.
Officers are currently working to rule out all other possibilities, Hetzroni adds.
He says that the apartment had been locked from the inside. According to Hebrew reports, the unit’s air vents were also shut during the time of the fire.
Earlier this morning, firefighters were able to extricate the mother and son from the second floor of the burning apartment building for first aid. Magen David Adom paramedics pronounced both dead at the scene.
