Police will begin presenting the findings of their probes evaluating law enforcement’s response to the October 7, 2023, massacre to the families of the victims tomorrow, the agency announces, after a year of investigating.
The force discreetly launched several probes overseen by senior officers in August 2025, which were meant to assess how police responded to the Hamas-led attacks on Israeli communities throughout the Gaza border region.
Police chief Danny Levy stressed the probes would not assign blame to individuals, Hebrew outlets said at the time. Instead, they were reportedly meant to help police draw operational conclusions to strengthen law enforcement’s emergency preparedness.
At this point, all probes have been approved by the police senior command, police say, noting that the investigations were presented a week ago to officers who survived combat against Hamas terrorists during the invasion.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
