Syria condemns ‘brutal’ Iran attacks, reaches out to Saudi, UAE

Syria condemns “brutal attacks” from Iran on Arab countries, as its foreign minister holds calls with counterparts in the region.
Syria was a close Iranian ally until the Bashar Assad regime was toppled in late 2024. The new government, which is led by many former jihadists, has prioritized showing Western countries that it is committed to a future of moderation, but Israel has treated it with suspicion.
Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shabani calls Emirati Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to express solidarity, according to Damascus.
He also calls his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Abdullah, and the two affirm “the Kingdom’s right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its territory,” according to the Saudi readout.
