A pre-season friendly soccer game between Juventus and Atletico Madrid is cancelled.

The game between the Italian and Spanish teams had been set to take place on Sunday evening at Tel Aviv’s Bloomfield Stadium.

The match has been scrapped “due to the current security situation,” the Spanish club says in a statement.

While Tel Aviv has not been targeted since the current round of fighting began on Friday afternoon, sirens have sounded in the suburbs of Holon and Bat Yam.

On Friday, the Tel Aviv municipality opened the city’s bomb shelters.

The majority of projectiles fired Saturday have targeted southern towns, but rockets were fired at the central city of Modiin around noon.

It was not clear if Islamic Jihad had limited capabilities for major attacks on more distant cities after Israel’s airstrikes on terror targets in the Gaza Strip, or if it had made a conscious decision not to escalate further.
