Speaking at a rally in Georgia, US President Donald Trump again claims that the US is not currently interested in making a deal with Iran, even though Tehran is begging for such an accord.
“They’re getting hit so hard, and they want to make a deal. But I say they’re not ready to make a deal. Because every time they make a deal they want to change it and everything,” Trump says.
“They’re not ready. They’ll be ready very soon,” he adds.
Trump claims that the US is targeting Iranian assets along the Strait of Hormuz in order to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
“If you combine us and Venezuela, we have about 62 percent of the world’s oil market, so we don’t need straits,” he says. “We don’t need the Hormuz Strait, but we do it because we have to do it because we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon.”
He doesn’t elaborate on how the strikes near Hormuz are tied to Iran’s nuclear program.
