UN office says 80% of some 170 Palestinians killed are civilians

The UN Office for the Coordination for Humanitarian Affairs in Occupied Palestinian Territory (OCHA oPT) says that 80% of those Palestinians killed so far in Operation Protective Edge, launched early Tuesday in response to continued rocket fire, are civilians.

The UN office released a statement Sunday saying that of approximately 170 Palestinians killed, some 130 are non-combatants and include over 30 children.

“26 members of armed groups and nine persons whose status could not be verified” have been killed in Israel air strikes since Tuesday, read the statement.

Over 1,000 have been injured and 940 homes have been destroyed or severely damaged in the fighting, according to the UN office’s findings.
