Three men were killed in a car crash in northern Israel Sunday and two others suffered moderate injuries.

The collision took place on Route 70, near the western Galilee village of Tamra, forcing police to close the north-south artery to traffic for several hours.

Paramedics pronounced the three fatalities dead at the scene. The two injured passengers were taken to Haifa’s Rambam Medical Center for treatment.

“The force of the collision was so strong that we had no choice but to pronounce the deaths of those injured at the scene,” a paramedic told Ynet.

Police initially suspected the crash was caused by a hit-and-run by a third vehicle, but later ruled out that possibility.

Police later released the name of one of the victims as Nour Shahadeh, 25, of Mashhad. The two others were from the nearby towns of Kfar Vradim and Hurfeish.
