Bat Yam man arrested for synagogue theft, vandalism
Suspect stole charity boxes from houses of worship, which police returned
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleA 22-year old Bat Yam resident was arrested Monday on suspicion of vandalizing and robbing two synagogues in the seaside city earlier this week.
The man allegedly broke into the houses of worship and made off with charity boxes, synagogue property and other items. Police said the items were returned to the synagogues.
On Sunday, police reported that two synagogues in Bat Yam and one in Or Yehuda had been vandalized overnight. In Bat Yam, damage to synagogue property was reported and religious books had been strewn over the floor in one of the buildings.
In Or Yehuda, responding to a call, police discovered an 18-year old outside the synagogue, who was apprehended after a chase on foot. Several bottles of beer were later discovered to be missing from the synagogue.
