The IDF on Monday shot and moderately injured a Palestinian near the Erez crossing in the northern Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources reported.

Adbullah Maaroof, 19, was shot in the leg and taken to the Kamal Udwan hospital in Beit Lahiya for treatment, Palestinian Ma’an News Agency reported, citing medics in the Gaza Strip.

The IDF Spokesperson said that several Palestinians approached the border fence and that the soldiers acted in accordance with the rules of engagement. After the Palestinians failed to respond to calls to distance themselves from the fence, the soldiers fired toward the men’s legs.

Incidents of this kind have become commonplace since the end of November’s Operation Pillar of Defense. Gaza officials claim that since the ceasefire took effect, Israeli soldiers have killed three Palestinians and wounded more than 40 in border incidents.
