Obama invites Trump to White House
President congratulates Republican on his election victory, will deliver address about outcome

The White House said Wednesday that US President Barack Obama had congratulated Republican president-elect Donald Trump and invited him to meet at the White House Thursday.
The White House said the president would make a statement later on Wednesday about the election results and discuss “what steps we can take as a country to come together after this hard-fought election season.”
“Ensuring a smooth transition of power is one of the top priorities the president identified at the beginning of the year and a meeting with the president-elect is the next step,” the White House said in the statement.
Obama also spoke with former secretary of state Hillary Clinton and commended her on a well-fought presidential campaign.
