Israel’s chief of police Yohanan Danino on Thursday suspended his driver from all police activity until further notice after an investigation determined that he had driven through a red light, hitting and lightly injuring a motorcyclist, with Danino in the car.
The accident took place last week, and Danino put the injured man in his car and evacuated him to Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital, where he was treated and released. Danino then temporarily suspended the driver pending an investigation.
At first, the driver claimed that he had entered the junction while the light was still orange, but footage from security and traffic monitoring cameras stationed nearby showed that the light had already turned red.
The tapes also showed the car overtaking vehicles that had slowed down before the junction, passing them on their right.
