Two people were killed Thursday evening after their car exploded while they were driving on Highway 5 near Petah Tikvah.
Police said an initial investigation showed that the powerful explosion was caused by a bomb planted on the vehicle.
They suspect that the incident was an underworld assassination.
The identities of the two victims were not immediately clear. A second car was damaged by flying debris from the explosion, but its occupants were uninjured.
A Magen David Adom medic official who arrived at the scene said that it “was a strong fire. Pieces went flying out of the car… it was a difficult scene similar to terrorist attacks,” Ynet reported.
