De Niro: ‘I’d like to punch Trump in the face’

Jon Voight defends Republican nominee, says actor’s ‘ugly rant’ is ‘more damaging’ than candidate’s bragging about sexual assault

Actors Robert De Niro and Jon Voight went head to head on Saturday after the “Taxi Driver” star announced he would like to punch Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump in the face.

In a video rant posted online on Saturday, the actor called the billionaire everything from “blatantly stupid,” to “a con.”

De Niro’s comments came as a 2005 video obtained and released Friday by The Washington Post and NBC News, saw Trump, who was married to his current wife at the time, describing attempts to have sex with a married woman. He also brags about women letting him kiss them and grab their genitals because he is famous.

“When you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything,” Trump says in the video. He adds seconds later: “Grab them by the p—-. You can do anything.” He said of his impulse to kiss beautiful women: “I don’t even wait.”

In response, De Niro let loose on his feelings for Trump.

“I mean he’s so blatantly stupid. He’s a punk, he’s a dog, he’s a pig, he’s a con, a bullshit artist, a mutt who doesn’t know what he’s talking about, doesn’t do his homework, doesn’t care, thinks he’s gaming society, doesn’t pay his taxes. He’s an idiot,” said De Niro.

“Colin Powell said it best: He’s a national disaster. He’s an embarrassment to this country. It makes me so angry that this country has gotten to this point that this fool, this bozo, has wound up where he has. He talks how he wants to punch people in the face? Well, I’d like to punch him in the face. This is somebody that we want for president? I don’t think so.

De Niro said he cared about the “direction of this country” and was “very, very worried” that it “might go in the wrong direction with someone like Donald Trump.”

Voight, an outspoken Republican, chided De Niro in a string of tweets on Saturday over his “foul words” against Trump.

“I am so ashamed of my fellow actor Bobby DeNiro’s rant against Donald Trump. What foul words he used against a presidential nominee,” he wrote.

“Donald Trump’s words were not as damaging as Robert DeNiro’s ugly rant. Trump’s words did not hurt anyone. Can you imagine if any Republican said words like Robert DeNiro used — against Hilary Clinton or Barack Obama? All hell would break loose,” Voight continued.

The actor reaffirmed his support for Trump and defended his conduct.

“I don’t know of too many men who haven’t expressed some sort of similar sexual terms toward women, especially in their younger years,” he wrote.

More than a dozen prominent Republicans — senators, congressmen and sitting governors — announced Saturday they would not vote for Trump.

Among them was the party’s 2008 nominee, Arizona Sen. John McCain, who had stood by Trump even after the billionaire questioned whether the former POW should be considered a war hero because he got “captured.”
