AG seeking to hand over Sde Teiman investigation to state attorney – report

Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara is seeking to turn over responsibility for the criminal investigation into the Sde Teiman abuse video leak to State Attorney Amit Aisman, Hebrew media reports.

Earlier today, the legal adviser to the Justice Ministry wrote in a legal opinion that Baharav-Miara should not be involved in the investigation since she had been responsible for supervising an internal probe by the Military Advocate General’s Office into the affair, which determined that the case be closed without a criminal investigation.

Alongside the attorney general’s intention to have Aisman oversee the investigation, Justice Minister Yariv Levin announces that he has formally “appointed” State Ombudsman for Judges Asher Kula to direct it.

It appears that it will be the High Court of Justice which will ultimately adjudicate who oversees the probe, since it is set to hear two petitions on the matter, one asking that it order Baharav-Miara not to be involved in the case and one asking it to invalidate Levin’s appointment of Kula and his effort to sideline the Attorney General’s Office.
