South African Jews are furious about an anti-Semitic post the social media manager of a local branch of the country’s ruling party — the African National Congress — is said to have posted on Facebook.
The ANC official, Rene Smit, is said to have posted a photo of Adolf Hitler next to this text: “Yes, man, you were right… I could have killed all the Jews, but I left some to let you know why I was killing them.”
The South African Jewish Board of Deputies is said to have written to the ANC to complain, but so far, the party has not commented on the issue.
The party has been extremely critical of Operation Protective Edge. On Thursday, the party’s deputy secretary-general, Jessie Duarte, said she was “reminded of the atrocities of Nazi Germany” and accused Jerusalem of turning the Palestinian territories into “permanent death camps.”
The hashtag #Hitlerwasright has been trending on Twitter among pro-Palestinian activists.
