Child injured in Beit Shemesh stabbing dies of his wounds

One of the children injured in a stabbing in the central Israeli city of Beit Shemesh has died of his wounds, Mayor Shmuel Greenberg says in a statement.
Police said earlier today that two boys aged 4 and 7 were found stabbed in an apartment in Beit Shemesh. A suspect, reportedly a neighbor of the boys, was arrested.
The mayor’s statement does not specify which child has died, but the older of the two was in critical condition while the younger one was in serious condition. Both were rushed to the hospital.
The incident is not being treated as an act of terror, and the suspect is thought to be mentally unstable.
Greenberg also mourns another child who was killed today in a traffic accident in the city.
“Beit Shemesh has experienced two difficult and painful incidents in the past hour, both of which saw a child’s life cut short” he says in a statement. “Our hearts are with the families that have lost what is most dear to them, and we pray for their well-being and a recovery for the wounded.”
He says staff from the city’s welfare department is in touch with the affected families.
