Egypt shoots down Hamas criticism over Rafah closure

Egypt is always on the side of the Palestinian people and is the only country that works for them rather than just talking, Egyptian foreign ministry spokesman Badr Abdel-Ati says in a television interview, addressing criticism levied by Hamas against Cairo after it decided not to open the Rafah border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Sinai Peninsula.

He adds that the Palestinians are attacking the wrong party, as the welfare of Gaza’s residents rests solely on the shoulders of Israel.
