Far-left Haredi reporter to be classified as security prisoner, after arrest for celebrating deaths of IDF soldiers — report
Israel Prison Service chief Kobi Yaakobi has ordered that detained reporter Israel Frey be classified as a security prisoner and transferred to a security detention facility, Ynet reports.
The far-left Haredi journalist was arrested yesterday on suspicion of incitement after he wrote on social media that the “world is a better place” following the deaths of five IDF soldiers from the Netzah Yehuda battalion in Gaza earlier this week.
Unlike criminal detainees, security prisoners are held for committing a broad range of what Israel classifies as nationalistically motivated crimes, which range from gruesome terror attacks to publishing incendiary content. The vast majority of them are Palestinian.
Frey will “receive detention conditions like any other security prisoner,” Yaakobi says, as quoted by Ynet.
