Finance minister Katz says he opposes reported holiday handouts

Finance Minister Israel Katz says he opposes further mass handouts to the public amid the coronavirus pandemic, amid reports Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking just that ahead of the High Holiday season next month.

Speaking to 90FM Radio this morning, Katz said, “I don’t think we should do that… I’m not aware of anything like that and I don’t think it will happen.”

The government this week began distributing grants to most Israeli citizens, dependent on their family status and the number of children they have, excluding high wage earners.
