US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley slams PA President Mahmoud Abbas at the UN Security Council, saying his Western-backed government “lacks what is needed to achieve peace.”
Addressing the Security Council, Haley says Abbas lacks the courage to make compromises with Israel,
“We will not chase after a Palestinian leadership that lacks what is needed to achieve peace,” Haley says. “He rejected any American role in peace talks. He insulted the American president. He called for suspending recognition of Israel.”
“Hate-filled speeches and end-runs around negotiations take us nowhere,” she says referring to Abbas’s fiery speech last week to the PLO.
“Peace will not be achieved without leaders with courage,” adding that an agreement would “require compromise.”
“Real peace requires leaders who are willing to step forward, acknowledge hard truths, and make compromises,” Haley says. “The United States remains fully prepared and eager to pursue peace.”
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
