‘Hamas wants ceasefire, but only if blockade lifted’

Hamas wants a ceasefire, reports Ehud Ya’ari of Channel 2, but is unwilling to return to the arrangements in place since the end of Operation Pillar of Defense in 2012, in which Hamas pledged not to attack Israel, and to keep other factions from doing so, while Israel refrains from striking Hamas figures and increases the flow of goods through border crossings.

Hamas is holding firm on the demand that the closure on Gaza be lifted, says the commentator.

Hamas is not willing to have PA President Mahmoud Abbas or Egypt serve as mediators, says Ya’ari. Israel is in touch with the US, which passes messages on to Qatar, which in turn talks to Hamas.
