Islamists reportedly kidnap 300 Kurds in Syria

Islamist fighters on Monday kidnapped some 300 Kurdish civilians at a checkpoint in northwestern Syria, Kurdish officials and a local journalist tell AFP.

Officials in Europe with the main Kurdish party in Syria, the Democratic Union Party, say the Kurds were kidnapped as they traveled from the town of Afrin to the nearby city of Aleppo to collect salaries.

A journalist from Afrin confirmed the kidnapping, saying that the Islamists had taken the men and children in the group but freed the women.
