Ashraf al-Mansi, a Gaza resident who has led a militia in northern Gaza against Hamas in recent weeks, denies in a self-released video that Hamas had harmed his group.
In the video, published in recent hours on his Facebook page, he says rumors that Hamas killed or arrested militia members are false. He adds that the militia has managed to take control of several areas in northern Gaza and is working to expand its presence in order to allow residents to safely return to their homes there.
He addresses Hamas directly, warning that if they approach areas under militia control, they will be treated the same way Hamas treats militia members.
In the past 24 hours, footage was circulated showing executions carried out by Hamas in Gaza City. Reuters reported that since the start of the ceasefire, in the context of the fighting and executions conducted by Hamas, at least 30 people belonging to groups that tried to fight Hamas have been killed.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
