Police chief said to oppose Netanyahu’s possible plan to send IDF troops to Lod

After Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he will consider sending IDF soldiers to Lod as part of efforts to quell the unprecedented violent riots in the Jewish-Arab city, Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai is quoted by Hebrew media as saying in closed meetings that he objects.

Shabtai opposes using military forces for civilian policing, the reports say, since he believes IDF troops lack the training to deal with civilian populations.
