Protesters to demonstrate outside security cabinet meeting, demanding hostage deal
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleHundreds of protesters are marching to the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem where the security cabinet is currently meeting, with the demonstrators demanding a full hostage-release and ceasefire deal.
At the front of the demonstration, members of the socialist Hashomer Hatzair youth movement hold a banner that reads: “We are one step away from a complete torpedoing,” referring to fears that the government will tank a prospective hostage deal.
Police flank the demonstrators and have blocked off the road in one direction to allow the march to proceed.
“First of all, first of all, human lives above all,” protesters chant as they march down the street, accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his allies of “abandoning the hostages.”
The demonstration is taking place as the security cabinet convenes in the Prime Minister’s Office to approve plans for the next stages of the IDF’s operation to take over Gaza City.
Hebrew outlets report that the cabinet will not discuss the phased ceasefire and hostage-release deal that Hamas said it accepted last week.
